dog food
*Golden Retriever Crazy* asked:

Price is a factor. My dog is a one year old golden retriever and suffers from dry, flakey skin. I need a good quality food tht will help her coat improve.
Murray c, this isnt the place to advertise. And you techincally didnt help me. I already knew that adding eggs was good, and i wouldnt give it raw anyways because my dog could get salmonella poisoning.

add a raw egg to your dog’s food every once in a while

I have tried to help you by answering your question, now it’s your turn to help…
Would you vote for my niece Eileen Friedman (2nd from the left) online? Every vote for her bring us one step closer to a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.

Premium edge.. Innova, Canidae.. any premium pet food with no corn or fillers will help. A raw diet is cheaper, and would be the best.

adding olive oil ( a table spoon) to her normal food every day will also help.

On the packets it will say For Shiny Coats you just need to look around and try raw egg that’s really good for their coat too

I feed every dog in my kennel a raw natural prey based diet. Mostly muscle meat, some liver, heart, and other organs as well. All of my dogs are diabetes and allergy free with healthy coats (my Shepherds don’t shed all year round anymore, only in the spring). They also no longer have build ups of tarter which can cause tooth decay and infections in the gums which is a major cause of renal failure in kibble fed dogs. Feeding raw can be expensive if you buy from the grocery store but if you call your butcher you’ll be suprised how inexpensive whole chickens, some of the cuts of stew beef, and turkey are. They practically give away the organs. I actually spend less money feeding my dogs now than I ever have, you can also buy in bulk and keep everything in a deep freezer, that’s a big money saver. I hope I helped, and more importantly for your dog, I hope you switch.

Dogs don’t get salmonella poisoning. Dogs are designed to eat raw foods. Dogs lick their rears and don’t die from e. coli, my dogs eat raw chicken and raw eggs every day, and they’re all fine. They’re all Schutzhund trained and do a workout every day, they’re in top form. A dog can eat a 2 week old dead carcass and be fine, their saliva, stomach acid, and immune system stops the bacteria that would kill us dead in it’s tracks.

I have a great dane with sensitive skin and a sensitive digestive tract. I have tried almost all of the high-quality brand foods: Innova, Nutro, etc. By far, the best food I have found is the Eagle Pack Natural Formula (they also have formulas especially for sensitive skin, but this standard one is great). Check out their website

This is also one of the only food lines that did not have a single product on the recall lists. A lot of the high-quality foods use the same ingridients as regular or low grade foods. Do your research! THis food is an excellent value too – I really think it is the best food line for the money. Give it a try – you will see great results!

Also – raw eggs will help the coat (oil may cause loose stool, I wouldn’t recommend it)

I give Canidae lamb and rice to my pooch. And for 3 months now I’ve been giving my dog a raw meaty lamb bone from nature’s variety and a raw egg once a week. Dogs have strong immune systems that were made to digest raw foods so it’s no problem. Dogs are actually modified wolves who benefit from having fresh raw foods added to their diet. I just don’t feed raw chicken since people don’t eat that. People however do eat raw lamb and raw eggs in some parts of the world so if some people can eat it without getting sick than your dog is bound to have no issues.

Get the best food you can afford, this is a good guide:

Stay away from wheat, corn and soy. They’re not good for the coat and are the leading culprits when it comes to food allergies, which can cause Atopic Dermatitis.

Add an Omega 3 Fatty acid (a fish oil supplement) to your dog’s food. You can get this at a pet food store or you can get human grade at the drug store (ask your vet for dosage). If you get it at a pet food store, read th ingredients some of them have wheat in the ingredients.

Make sure you read the ingredients for your dogs treats and biscuits. I was buying a treat that said ‘Lamb and Rice’ on the front and it still had wheat in the ingredients.

If your dog’s problem is just as simple as the food, you will see a change in her/his coat in less than 2 weeks. The dandruff will be gone, the coat will be softer and less shedding….and if your dog has had that dog smell…that will be gone too.

ADD: Atopic Dermatitis can cause secondary conditions like yeast ear infections and bacterial skin infections.
