Well, it would be best to do some research, and pick a food that is good for your dogs breed/weight. If you cant be bothered to do the above, Bakers Dry Food and Butchers Tripe Mix are good choices, my dog loves them!
In my opinion, canned dog food is not the way to go……it’s bad for the dog’s teeth. If you must use canned dog food (because of age) try a holistic brand recommended by your vet. When the dog is older try mixing it with dry dog food and gradually stop the canned and have only dry dog food.
The best person to ask though is your veterinarian.
Have fun with your new puppy!!

When looking for a good dog food you want to keep your eye out for a few important things.
1: The first ingredient should be a whole meat or a meal such as Chicken, Lamb, Venison etc. You will want to avoid food that has a by-product as the first ingredient.
2: Do not buy a food that has by-products in it. These are the leftovers of the leftovers and provide little to no nutritional value and can be harmful. They can be anything – including hooves, horns, feathers etc. They are ingredients from the animal that do not contain enough meat to be called meat.
3: Do not get a food that contains corn of any sort. Corn is an incredibly cheap filler and a grain that all dogs have trouble digesting, and is the cause of many allergies in dogs.
4: Avoid foods that contain soy or wheat. They are indigestible grains that are prone to causing allergies.
5: If you can, buy a food that does not contain any grains at all. Dogs did not evolve to eat grains and their digestive track is not suited for it. It can cause many allergies and health problems. A food free of grains tends to have a higher meat content and higher quality ingredients.
6: Avoid any food that has ingredients such as a meat by-products/meal or poultry by-products/meal. These are non-specific animal remains.
Keeping an eye for all of these factors when choosing your dog food will help insure that you are at least getting a decent quality food.
Best dog food I ever fed my dogs is called Red Barn. It’s not canned but it’s soft and it comes in rolls (like sausage). You slice it up. It’s very, very good for dogs. Much better than any canned food, in my opinion. It keeps my dogs teeth clean, (canned food is not good for dogs’ teeth) and my dogs don’t get fleas or worms. It’s good stuff–check it out!
Actually… if you can afford it… canned food is superior as far as being able to feed your dog healthy with less processing.
As far as keeping their teeth healthy… dry dog food is a myth. Brushing and treats designed for dental health are your best bet.
Here is a food (one of the many great ones) that I would suggest.
From this link you can look at all of their products and read about them and see what you think.

I would Do some research on your dog and what kind of food that is good for Him/her.
If you feed canned food, you must pay VERY CLOSE ATTENTION to the serving size. The main problem with canned food is that a dog will eat it all, regardless if it’s full or not. This can quickly lead to an overweight /obese dog. So it’s up to you to really make sure the dog doesn’t over-eat. (This is important with both dry and canned food, but canned food is irresistible to many dogs so it’s easier for them to over-eat.)
Check this website for good foods, both dry and canned:
(I recommend only feeding foods rated 4, 5, or 6 stars. Anything 3 stars or less, I would stay away from.)

pedigree beef or chicken canned food
I agree straight canned food is bad on teeth at least use some kibble in it and some good teeth brushing and frequent checks of the teeth, if you have to use canned I suggest pedigree or eukanuba but if it is a older dog that might be hash on them it has alot of proteins and all that stuff btw you need deep pockets this could cost you around $5,300.00 a year.
Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold and Nature’s Variety Prarie foods are all excellent choices. What it really comes down to are things you DON’T want to see in foods such as;
Wheat and corn. Animals don’t digest them. weren’t given sharp teeth to consume grains.
Wheat and corn gleuten which are put into foods and a cheap source of protein in lieu of meat. The tough, viscid nitrogenous substance remaining when wheat is washed to remove the starch. Wheat gluten is a cheap by-product of human food processing, the result of washing wheat and letting the starchy liquid dry. It offers almost no nutritional value, and serves mostly to bind the food together.
Digests of any kind are palatability enhancer made by reducing (cooking down) meat and fat into concentrated liquid or dry product. Digest can be made from any animal. This is an inconsistent ingredient which can contain unpredictable animals unsuitable for human consumption.
Indescript animal fats obtained from the tissues of mammals and/or poultry in the commercial process of rendering or extracting. Animal fat is a byproduct of meat meal processing. The origin of the contributing animals is never known, and the resulting oil is very low in linoleic acid – an essential fatty acid that is important for skin and coat health.
By-products of any kind consist of the rendered, clean part of the carcass of slaughtered animals, such as heads, feet, viscera, free from fecal content and foreign matter except in such amounts as might occur unavoidably in good processing practices. By-products are an inconsistent ingredient because of the multiple organs used, their constantly changing proportions and their questionable nutritional value. By-products are much less expensive and less digestible than meal.
Ethoxyquin – A chemical preservative that is not approved for human use.
Beet pulp is the residue from sugar beets which has been cleaned, freed from crowns, leaves, and sand, and extracted in the process of manufacturing sugar. Beet pulp is added to some pet foods to act as a fibrous stool hardener.
BHA/BHT are short for Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT), both of which are chemical preservatives. BHA and BHT have been banned from human use in many countries. In the US, they are still permitted in pet foods.
Artificial flavors and colors are humanly-contrived additives, used to enhance a product and to appeal to the human eye. Use of these ingredients can conceal damage or inferiority, or make the product appear better than it actually is.
What you DO want to see is a long list of meat, fish, vegetables, high quality digestible grains and chelated vitamin and mineral sources. Like this;
Chicken, chicken broth, chicken liver, ocean whitefish, ground barley, sweet potatoes, carrots, groud flax seed, arageenan, potassium chloride, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, choline chloride, vitamin E, cobalt proteinate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, riboflavin suppliment, sodium selenite, thiamin mononitrate, Vitamin A, Vitamin B12, Potassium iodide, biotin, Vitamin d3 suppliment.
Also carrots, blue berries, cranberries, brewers yeast, eggs, peas, garli, fish meal, kelp, Omegas, Grapeseed oil, sunflower, sage and rice are very good things to eat of you are a dog (or person!!)
Wow. That was long. I hope it helped.
Hi, First of all a good quality wet food is fine but you should try to give your puppy dry food, this is better for their teeth! I recommend Nutro Choice in chicken and rice they have both dry and wet food for puppies and dogs! Ive done a lot of research on dog food recently and this is the best one I found Ive started my dog on it just a couple of weeks ago and she loves it.
Heres the website:
Hope this helps
PS chicken as the main ingredient is the best for your doggy.
