why don’t you give him to someone that will feed him quality food and go on a diet yourself?

don’t go cheep on your dog do you get the cheapest food for you? get the good stuff for its age and activity level

angelhimm on 18 January, 2009 at 3:07 pm #

You know the cheaper the food, the more the dog will eat. Its like that tv commercial….’you’ll have to eat 10 bowls of this, to get the same nutrition from one bowl of this’. You’ll end up paying the same amount in end buying cheaper food, cause you have to buy twice as much.

give him what you eat – I am sure with your cheap attitude, that would be cheapest stuff!!! Give him to PETA if you cant take care of him!

I have found the cheaper the food you give your dog, the more your dog will eat. The reason for that is the cheap food is full of fillers apposed to the better food being fully digestible. I’m not suggesting that you feed your dog on the most expensive food, buy I would at least buy my best friend for life something that give proper vitamins and fills him up. You will also find with the cheapest food that your dog will poop a lot more. I own a boxer and find it works out to be about the same money buying a $75.00 bag of Wellness apposed to a cheaper brand where she would eat me out of house and home. Best luck

don’t save on food, since the cheaper food is usually damaging to some aspect of an animal’s health. you will end up paying more in doctor’s bills. my friend fed her cat cheap food until he had kidney failure and urinated with blood. now she buys him VERY expensive food, he cannot go back to anything in a moderate price range (not to mention cheap)

They have some cheap kinds at wal-mart. Maybe instead of buying a cheaper kind, you could just find some that was more filling for your dog.

if your dog is over weight put him on dog food that’s made to help dogs lose weight but keeps the nutrients in there body cheap dog food is just a filler it doesn’t have any nutrients in it its basically what we would consider junk food if u leave the dog food down all day that could be part of the problem feed him 3meals a day not huge ones don’t give him table food and make sure he exercises even if its just going for a walk talk to your vet about the right kind of dog food to give him

Mouse on 10 February, 2009 at 3:25 pm #

…ummmmmm. You know the cheapest food will basically kill your dog sooner? Cheaper food means more by-products and other crap that will cause disease. So, if you care about your dog and don’t want to be paying vet bills up the ying-yang in the near future, I suggest paying the price now and buying quality dog food–such as Innova, Natural Balance, or Solid Gold.

buy at Aldis’s. you can get canned ‘food’ there for less than $0.50 a can….

hey if its safe for humans it should be safe for a dog…

Prices always change, but it’s not good to keep sparatically changing your dog’s food. it is VERY bad for thier stomaches. If you are going to change your dog’s food, add a little of the new food with it’s old food and mix in a little more of the new food each day, untill it is eating just the new food. This would be very hard if it is a different kind of food every two months or so.

Doglover is right, the cheaper the food is,the more you have to feed.I feed my 80 pound Lab Innova, she gets 2 1/2 cups per day,and maintains her weight. Many of the cheaper brands would require a dog her size be fed at least 4 and in some cases 5 or more cups per day.I come out ahead in the long run,by spending more at the time of purchase.Dogs on a premium food,as opposed to a cheap food, are also healthier overall. So a better food can also save money being spent on a Vet.

You could always just turn him loose at feeding time and he can go eat at the neighbors’ or hunt his own rabbits!
