Sometimes, I run out of dog food I purchase from the store, so I feed my dog some of my dinner. But of course, I’ll suck the oil out of it before giving it to him on the floor/on his bowl.

Human food causes dog to have Pancreatitis. It is NOT suggested for dog consumption. That’s why dogs eat ‘dog’ food and humans eat human food.
A good dog food, recommended by the doctors at my vet clinic is Science Diet.
Once you start with the table food your dog will never go back to regular dog food. Dog food smells bad. Dogs have a great sense of smell, I can’t understand why dog food manufacturers don’t give a better smell. They would sell more food. When my food smells bad I won’t eat it either, lol. You can find hundreds of home cooked recipes on line.

science diet is what we use some things give dogs gas so it depends on your dog
ok my dog gets diarrhea from iams and dont get kibbles and bits, dogs get aggresive sometimes and go crazy over it….Eukanuba works best for me because it is for all categories. you can buy small, medium and large dog bags, and then the age of your dog to, it keeps them healthy and doesnt have any gross or harmful ingredients
we feed our dog OLD ROY from walmart, he likes it and its cheaper than iams or science diet, u should try that, but if he seems like hes not eating as much or he gets diarrhea, he may have a weak stomach, so u might want to try iams or a name brand like it. If ur dog is a puppy, u should buy the more expensive stuff, b/c it has more protein (or whatever puppys need) in it for a growing puppy.
(we give our dog scraps sometimes to, but he should’nt have 2 much of it, because people food is to rich for dogs, even if u suck off the oil)

I don’t have a dog, but my cat eats their kitty food. The grocery store I worked for carried it and I met the owner. She was buying loads of fresh meat saying she was using it for the food, so I know it’s good.
If your feeding him a home-cooked diet, then a raw one would be best.
Search for Home-cooked dog food recipes or something around that.
If you are considering dry dog food from the store get science diet -veteranarian recommended.
As for home cooked meals, my book says:
2 1/2 ounces of chicken,
5 ounces rice
1/3 ounce bone meal
a pinch of iodized salt
1/2 teaspoon corn oil
…Then cook the rice, bone meal, salt and oil in twice the volume in water. Simmer for 20 minutes, then add chicken and let simmer for another 10 minutes. Cool before feeding.

I feed Solid Gold dry and supplment with canned tripe every couple of days. There are several decent books out on holistic dog food, and the BARF diet-a trip to Amazon.com would give you a whole list….but most people I know who have tried it go back to a good, premium dog food.
Part of the misconception of feeding dogs human food is that we often give them muscle meat-like chicken breast, etc, and they also need gizzards, etc. I do bake chicken gizzards and livers for extra treats when I want to do something special for the kids.
Human Food that is processed like hamburgers, fries, pepparoni pizza isn’t good for your dog or you either.
when I was a kid our family had a dog that only ate people food (chocolate, chicken bones you name it)and he lived to be 19 years old but I do think that it makes them fat. I also figure that dogs are only here for 15 years at best and if he wants a piece of bologna he gets it. When a dog has stomach ailments even the Vet will tell you chicken and rice or lean beef and rice.( its fairly cheap to make) I buy Ol’Roy also but if I had the extra money to spend I would find food that doesn’t have any additives. Such asDiamondBrand.
