dog food
MsJTM asked:

My dog is very picky with food and won’t eat most dog food. Am I just buying the wrong foods? He doesn’t like Pedigree, Iams, Alpo or any of the mainstream stuff. What’s a good specialty pet store brand to try?

A really good food is Science Diet. You can get it at most vets or Petsmart. Its a very healthy food and most dogs like it.

Science diet makes a food called Natures Best and the first ingredient is meat! I know someone that has a golden retriever that just turned 20 in April and has been on Science Diet her entire life.

I tried Canidae with my dog, and he wasn’t too fond of it, although it is an excellent food. He does, however, love Wellness which you can get at PetCo, or specialty stores. I normally wouldn’t recommend many dog foods that can be purchased at PetCo, but Wellness is an very high quality food. Both Canidae and Wellness are great foods.
Try for more info on good brands. It’s best to go with either 4 or 5 star foods.
Also try to avoid anything with by products or fillers (such as corn). Science diet, Iams, Eukanuba, etc., are all actually pretty horrible foods if you read the label. They’re full of junk that your dog doesn’t need. And as a general rule, its always a good idea to pick a dog food with meat as the first ingredient.
Best of luck :)

Did you know Rachel Ray is cooking for dogs? Well she made this new dog chow I don’t know what it’s called, but it keeps your dog healthy fit.

No wonder he doesn’t want to eat…no offense but those are terrible foods. Go to a feed store or Pet supplies plus or pet supermarket and get Canidae or you can order it online at amazon or go to put in your zip to see where to get it in your area. Other great foods are Wellness, Nutro Ultra Holistic, Merrick, Solid Gold, Orijen, Innova, Eagle Pack Holistic. Look at the labels and if it has ANY corn, wheat, gleutens, soy or any by products then don’t buy it. Good luck.
EDIT: Science Diet is overpriced corn and by prouct meal so is Iams and Eukanuba. JUNK!

Try Taste of the Wild. I have talked to a lot of people that said their really picky dogs loved the Taste of the Wild and it’s a good food. It’s grain free. I rotate between the Bison/Venison and the Wild Fowl.

Definitely avoid all mainstream foods. Petco’s Wellness brand is a good food, as well as Pet Promise. I choose Pet Promise for my standard poodle, and he loves it. Poodles are notoriously picky eaters (they have sensitive stomachs) and he loves it, so hopefully your dog will like it too. If you have the money for it, Natural Balance dog food rolls are absolutely irresistable. I feed it as treats in my grooming salon, and I’ve never seen a dog turn it down. :)

I don`t trust Iams at all, I use Ol`Roy Premium and make a gravy with it. My dogs eat it real well.

Don’t feed your dog for a few days and he will eat anything you buy.

A lot of dog food is made up of bad stuff. such as bad fillers. look for a type of meat as one of the first ingredients and a food that has vegetables without the fillers. We use a type of dog food called Blue and a dog trainer at petsmart told us about it and it seems to be very good!

i think the best you can feed your dog is Innova dog food. it’s mostly meat based it doesn’t have any wheat or grains. It doesnt have any by-products or fillers. it’s natural and organic and very healthy my dogs love it
